What Does This Study Involve?
For this study, you and your partner will have a few evaluations including blood tests, blood pressure, height, weight, waist, and hip measures. These evaluations will happen at the beginning and end of the 6 month study period. You and your partner will also have some online forms to fill.
Like a flip of a coin, a computer program will randomly place you into one of two groups
1) Usual care
2) Couples-based coaching sessions
Study Groups
Group 1: Step Counting Alone
You and your partner will:
- Do the evaluations
- Use a step counter device
- Receive weekly step targets
- Work together to become more active
Group 2: Step Counting with Coaching
You and your partner will:
- Do the evaluations
- Use a step counter device
- Receive weekly step targets
- Work together to become more active
- Participate in coaching sessions to improve collaboration and communication
Our Goal
We will compare the two groups to figure out the best way to increase steps for both partners and make blood sugars better for the person with Type 2 diabetes.
Did You Know?
Type 2 diabetes in one partner increases the chances of diabetes in the other. This is likely because couples often share behaviours and circumstances that affect health and behaviours.
